Welcome to Lùme.
Our story
Blending the art of traditional candle-making with the elegance of sculptural design. Our journey begins in the lush landscapes of New South Wales’, Central West Tablelands, where we harvest pure beeswax from our honey farm. Each candle is hand-poured in Manly, Sydney, reflecting our commitment to artisanal craftsmanship and natural beauty.
Our collection inspired by the raw and vast landscapes around us, embodies the essence of nature’s imperfect beauty. The subtle variations and blemishes in our candles are not imperfections but treasured characteristics that highlight the individuality of each piece, handmade to order.
Our candles come in a refined butter colour wax, just as the bees left it. As they burn, they cast illuminating shadows with qualities of the sun’s spectrum.
At Lùme, we are dedicated to merging function with artistry in every candle we create.

Beeswax is the cornerstone of the hive, with honeybees masterfully sculpting their comb from this exquisite substance. The hexagonal cells they create are then filled with honey and brood, forming a vital part of the hive’s structure and life cycle.
But where does this extraordinary wax come from? It is secreted by specialized glands on the underside of the bees' abdomens. Beeswax is a truly remarkable material, integral to the hive and prized for its myriad uses beyond. This industrious little being spends its life fluttering from blossom to blossom, consuming, processing, and transforming nectar into our cherished honey, all while supporting the delicate balance of our ecosystems. Albert Einstein even suggested that humanity might have only four years left if bees were to vanish. These extraordinary creatures traverse over 60,000 kilometers and pollinate more than 2 million flowers to yield less than a pound of pure beeswax. How precious and vital they are!

Beeswax candles offer a natural and beneficial way to improve indoor air quality. When burned, beeswax releases negative ions, which are known to purify the air by attracting and neutralizing airborne pollutants. This process helps remove allergens, mold, pollen, pet dander, dust, smoke, odors, and even bacteria and viruses from your environment, making it especially beneficial for those with allergies, asthma, or insomnia.
The presence of negative ions in the air has been shown to improve mood, increase energy, and promote overall well-being, similar to the invigorating effects of being near the ocean or walking through a rainforest. In contrast, positive ions, often found in polluted environments and emitted by electronic devices, can make the air feel stale and may contribute to feelings of discomfort.
As beeswax candles burn, they can absorb impurities from the air, which may be visible as darkened wax or small particles in the melted wax. This natural air purification process not only enhances the atmosphere of your home but also contributes to a healthier living environment.
Ionisation helps with:
Airborne Dust
Pollens
Bacteria + Viruses
Allergens + Pollutants (especially if you have allergies and hay fever)
Asthma and Chemical Sensitivities
Electromagnetic Radiation
Household odours (pets, food ect.)

Beeswax candles offer a multitude of benefits beyond just purifying the air. They are known to stimulate the pituitary gland, which can increase mood, energy, creativity, intuition, and even dream activity. This stimulation can also help reduce stress and enhance calm, making beeswax candles perfect for creating an inspiring workplace and a happy home environment.
The negative ions released by burning beeswax candles are not only beneficial for your mood and energy levels but also play a crucial role in respiratory health. These negative ions increase oxygen flow to the brain, reduce stress, and contribute to an overall sense of well-being. For those with respiratory conditions like asthma or allergies, the clean-burning properties and air-purifying effects of beeswax candles can offer significant relief. They are ideal for anyone sensitive to chemicals or seeking to improve indoor air quality.
The experience of burning beeswax candles can be likened to the uplifting feeling of being by the ocean or walking through a forest. By bringing that same refreshing vibe into your home, beeswax candles help you feel happier, healthier, and more youthful.

Beeswax is a natural, renewable resource. Our candles are hand-poured using beeswax harvested from our honey farm in Northern New South Wales. This means you’re supporting sustainable practices and promoting the health of bee populations. Plus, beeswax candles burn longer and cleaner than regular candles, producing no harmful toxins or soot.

Beeswax candles are renowned for their long burn time, lasting 2-3 times longer than paraffin or soy candles. With a burn rate of approximately 1 hour per centimeter, our candles are crafted to provide lasting illumination and a touch of natural artistry to any space. Beeswax burns brighter and cleaner than any other candle. They produce a bright, steady flame that closely mimics the natural light spectrum, creating a serene and inviting ambiance.
One of the unique features of beeswax candles is the subtle, honey-like aroma they naturally emit. This gentle scent, unlike synthetic fragrances, is calming and soothing, making it perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Whether you're enjoying a relaxing evening, hosting a cozy gathering, or engaging in mindful meditation, beeswax candles enhance the experience with their natural light and comforting fragrance.

WAX
Our wax is 100% natural beeswax sourced in the purest way that is kind to the planet! Beeswax is 100% non toxic when burned and is the slowest burning wax. It can burn up to twice as long as a soy candle and 50 times longer than a paraffin candle.
Most candles even expensive ones are made from paraffin wax which creates highly toxic benzene and toluene and many other chemicals when burned. Also, many soy candles are made from genetically modified soy which is heavily sprayed with toxic pesticides.
WICKS
We only use 100% pure cotton wicks. Many candles have wicks that contain heavy metals such as lead. Even a few hours of burning with a lead wick, creates levels of airborne heavy metals that are much higher than the acceptable limits for health safety.
FRAGRANCES & DYES
Most candles that are potent in smell with a strong scent throw actually contain BPA which carries the scent and makes the fragrance linger in the air. BPA based fragrances are popular because they are cheap. None of our candles are made with fragrances or contain dyes. Instead enjoy the subtle, honey-like aroma that beeswax candles naturally emit.

TRIMMING THE WICK
Always trim your wicks to about 5-8mm (only when the wax has hardened), disposing of the mushroom (cotton wicks naturally form a mushroom) before you re-light your candle. This will keep your candle burning gently and prevent smoke or large flames. But be sure not to over trim your wicks, as it may become engulfed by wax. If you are burning for a prolonged period of time remove the mushroom ball during the burn.
PUTTING OUT THE CANDLE
Extinguish your candle gently to avoid smoke and dispersing wax.
Allow the candle to cool and harden before you relight it.
CANDLE APPEARANCE
The subtle variations and blemishes in our candles are not imperfections but treasured characteristics that highlight the individuality of each piece, handmade to order.
Although carful effort is made to ensure consistency, each candle will be unique. The base of your candle may appear slightly uneven; this is due to hand pouring.
Due to the natural ionizing effect beeswax candles have, once you have started burning your candle you may see that the wax becomes darker and there may be “bits” in the melted wax – this is a result of the impurities from your environment being absorbed and removed.
Avoid exposure to drafts and direct sunlight as the may cause uneven burning and discolouration.
If you find your candle is tunnelling or burning unevenly, adjust the wick to the center and then lean it closer to the side that needs more heat. You may also gently push the sides of the wax down while it is still warm. But be careful not to engulf the wick.
With a burn time of approximately 1 hour per cm depending on the width, our candles are designed to illuminate your surroundings. As these candles age, a gentle fading of the wax colour may occur.
SAFETY
NEVER leave the candle unattended or move it while burning and always keep candles clear from curtains, books, children and pets.
Always place candles on a heat-resistant base and set on a level stable surface, preferably a candle holder of dish to catch the melted wax.
Remove labels or packaging before burning. Clean with a damp cloth as needed.
